The highs and lows of running

This past weekend at the Husky Classic was by far the best race I've had this indoor season. Unfortunately that doesn't mean much because the first one was so bad. BUT the 3k recently was an overall big improvement of how my racing has been going. I feel like I had a few decent races in the fall but this weekend was definitely much better. My time of 8:31 was not a pr (11 seconds slower then my best) but I finally feel like I'm on the right track and I'm getting into good shape. Last week I did some good workouts and overall had a solid week of running. On Tuesday morning I completed a real good strength workout. So as long as I get in a few more good workouts before next weekend's 3k race i should be able to roll. That is if I'm still running....

After yesterday's workout my right shin started to really aggravate me. It was a little sore the day of the race but I thought that it's the usual soreness that comes from racing. It felt ok on Sunday. Monday was a little worse but not horrible. It felt a little bit like shin splits but different. Almost like a deeper pain, it didn't feel sore on the surface but more inside the leg.... Anyhow, I complete Tuesday's workout and I'm feeling pretty good. A little while later, it starts to hurt more. It gets stiff and it almost hurts to walk around. I decide to go for a run but can't get more than a mile in. It hurts like crazy when I bring my toes up and flex it. Now if this was the usual race day or awesome workout soreness then that would be ok. But it was one of those things where you know it's just bad.

So I've been icing it a couple times each day and taking advil. I went into the pool today to swim and it looks like I'll be here for the next couple of days. I talked to a friend at the pool who thinks I strained my muscle. Whatever it is, it doesn't feel good.
