Pistorius breaks his own records - iol

Oscar Pistorius, Nedbank's Band Abassador ran the U23 200m in a time of 22.55 breaking his own South African record of 25.80.

The world record stands at 21.70 and according to his coach Ampie Louw, "Oscar is using these championships as preparation for the Paralympics in Beijing. He is hoping to break three world records in the build up to Beijing." Oscar will run in the 100m Wednesday March 26.

Western Province's Arnu Fourie (24.66) snatched gold from Free State's Juilius Lesenyeho (28.19) in the men's senior 200m for amputees.

Paralympic athlete Hilton Langenhoven (visually impaired) from Western Province produced a staggering time of 22.81, only 0.51 seconds off the SA record of 22.30. Second place went to Namibia's Joachim Bohitile (25.78) and third went to KwaZulu Natal's Siyabonga Mthembu (25.79).

Other athletes who produced excellent results were Ilse Hayes (visually impaired) who broke the SA record in the 200m track for senior women in a time of 26.12, breaking the previous record of 27.30. Tebogo Mokgalagadi (cerebal palsy) won gold for the 200m senior men in a time of 27.89 missing the previous record of 26.80. - Sapa
