Some UO sports may lure folks with flash and swoosh, but track and field serves up a long, proud tradition

EUGENE -- The state-of-the-art, $1.5 million scoreboard towers five stories above the track at the south end of Hayward Field, a monument to the new world of Oregon athletics.

Although the scoreboard is cool, captivating and in keeping with the school's Nike-inspired image, it stands in sharp contrast to the message the university hopes to convey to the sports world during the Olympic Trials:

Oregon is old school.
