As we savor the completion of the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials competition at storied, and now stunning, Hayward Field, the question for Oregonians who lived through the Steve Prefontaine era, and all those who revere his legacy today, will always remain: What really happened on that fateful night when America’s greatest distance runner lost his life?
