Congratulations RYAN SHERIDAN on being named the 1st New Yorker of the Week.

In case you missed it, Sheridan placed 2nd in the USA Cross Country Juniors 8k race this past weekend. His time of 24:19 was just a second off winner German Fernandez.

Sheridan graduated from Walt Whitman High School in 2007 and is now a freshman at Iona College (New Rochelle, NY). In High School he was faced with injuries and illness that kept him off the track for his junior and senior years. As a sophomore he was the New York state federation cross country champion. He went on to place 4th at the Northeast Regional Championship and then 17th at Footlocker Nationals.

After not racing for two years, he decided to go to Iona and since being there has run some impressive times. He ran at Club Nationals this past December and then posted an impressive 5k in 14:21.44 setting an Iona College indoor freshman record.

Other notable New Yorkers:

Molly Huddle from Saucony (Elmira, New York) placed 5th overall in the women's 8k race. Huddle graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2006. Huddle was a regular on the National stage in college as she claimed All-American status multiple times.

Max King from Oregon Track Club Elite (Cornell University) placed 7th overall in the Men's 12k race. This marks the 2nd time in 3 years that King made the team. King's toughness on the cross country course has helped him post fast times in the 3k steeplechase.
