A Brief Chat With Ian Dobson - Runner's World Racing NewsPublished by
7/11/08 Ian Dobson, 26, was third in the 5000 at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene in 13:29.76; he’ll join Bernard Lagat and Matt Tegenkamp on the U.S. Olympic squad in Beijing. Dobson’s personal 5000-meter best is a 13:15.33 from 2005; he also ran 13:18.87 in 2007. He was the USA Junior champion in the 5000 in 2001. In 2005, he was second in the 5000 at the NCAA Championships for Stanford University and then second in the USA Championships; he was tenth in his heat at the World Championships in Helsinki. The versatile Dobson was a Pac-10 champion in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 2003 and third in the NCAA Championships in 2004. He ran 28:16.47 for 10,000 meters at the Stanford Invitational in April.
